09 May 2025: World-renowned golfing destination, The Belfry Hotel & Resort, is thrilled to announce celebrity chef and Great British Menu winner, Tom Shepherd, will be designing the menu for its first-ever Belfry Classic Golf Day.
Showcasing exactly why his ‘No Ordinary Schoolboy’ dessert helped secure him the coveted top spot, Sutton Coldfield-born Tom will be including the mouthwatering dish in the sumptuous three-course menu he prepares for the day’s gala dinner. The dessert is comprised of ‘banana filled mousse, banana sponge soaked in banana rum, pecan granola, banana ice cream, banana and vanilla caramel’.
Taking place on Thursday May 22, the invite-only Belfry Classic Golf Day will be hosted by esteemed sports presenter and award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Dan Walker. It will see celebrities from the worlds of sport, music and TV come together on the resort’s championship Brabazon golf course - iconic home of the Betfred British Masters and four-time host to the Ryder Cup.
Among those practising their swing are rower and Olympic gold medallist, Sir Steve Redgrave, ballroom dancer from Strictly Come Dancing, James Jordan, former English county and international cricketer, Dominic Cork, and world championship swimmer, Mark Foster. This is as well as Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders actor, Nigel Boyle, and former professional footballer and sports reporter, Alan McInally.
Robert Bates, Executive Head Chef at The Belfry Hotel & Resort, said: “Tom is an exceptional talent, and we’re overjoyed he’ll be bringing his renowned skill and unique flair to the first-ever Belfry Classic Golf Day, creating a menu as unforgettable as the action taking place on the greens. To have so many celebrities show such excitement and passion for the inaugural Belfry Classic Golf Day has been phenomenal, and we can’t wait to welcome them all.”
Delivering a tournament like no other, the first-ever Belfry Classic Golf Day will also include an all-day BBQ, multiple drinks receptions, an enthralling live auction, a magnificent gala dinner with electrifying entertainment from stand-up comedian, Dan Farley, and much more – including an unforgettable after-party!
Sponsored by Turkish Airlines and Elliott Group, proceeds from the day will go towards two of the resort’s life-changing partner charities - the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and Hospitality Action. The Motor Neurone Disease Association is a national charity dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by MND, as well as improving access to care and funding research. Hospitality Action provides relief for hospitality workers in crisis, supplying everything from financial assistance to mental health resources.
